Philanthropy West Virginia is the leading resource for philanthropy in West Virginia, bringing funders together to learn, lead, and collaborate. We support effective grant-making to drive positive changes for people and communities across the Mountain State.
Through professional development, networking opportunities, and leadership initiatives, we bring together foundation trustees, staff, and philanthropic leaders to share ideas and learn from one another. Our members collaborate on issues that matter most to West Virginia while building stronger and more effective approaches to giving.
Our diverse membership includes private and family foundations, community foundations, corporate giving programs, health funders, and other grantmaking organizations. We also cultivate partnerships with nonprofit leaders, policymakers, and community stakeholders to advance philanthropy’s role in improving lives through the state.
As part of a nationwide network of more than 90 regional and state philanthropy-serving organizations, we provide access to best practices, innovative resources, and a powerful community of philanthropic leaders working to create positive change across the state.

OUR STORY
Since 1993, Philanthropy West Virginia has served as the state’s leading voice and resource for philanthropy, bringing together funders who are committed to creating stronger, healthier, and more vibrant communities across the state.
What began as a network for grant makers has grown into a statewide community of philanthropic leaders working to address West Virginia’s most pressing challenges and opportunities. From rural Appalachian communities to growing urban centers, we help connect people, ideas, and resources that drive meaningful change.
Today, Philanthropy WV supports a diverse membership that includes private and family foundations, community foundations, corporate giving programs, health conversion foundations, public grant makers, giving circles, and individual philanthropists. Through educational programs, leadership development, peer learning, and statewide collaboration, we equip our members to maximize their impact and strengthen the communities they serve.
As a trusted convener, we create spaces where funders can share knowledge, explore emerging issues, build partnerships, and learn from one another. By fostering collaboration across sectors, we help philanthropy work smarter, respond more effectively to community needs, and create lasting results for West Virginia.
